Citizens are expected to be concerned in decision-making processes of smart cities with the aim that their wants and ideas are integrated. While these limitations have been impeding citizen participation for decades, the applied sciences, prominent in the smart metropolis paradigm, present new alternatives to alleviate them. The objective of this thesis is to discover how technology can be utilized to deal with three obstacles skilled on the citizen facet. First, in order to alleviate the lack of knowledge around participation in smart cities, a workshop methodology is proposed to introduce the participatory smart city to year-old kids.
